Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to try out to join the team?

No, the team does not hold tryouts. Eventing is a sport that involves constant learning and growth. There are levels suited to everyone's degree of experience.

Do I need my own horse to be on the team and compete?

To be on the Club Eventing Team at NC State you must have your own horse or access to a horse (lease, deal, etc.) in order to compete and ride. If you do not have a horse you can participate as a non-competing member in club meetings, socials, fundraisers, officer positions, and supporting competing members at events.

What about trainers? Does the team have the same trainer I have to train with?

The team does not use a singular trainer for lessons. Each member is free to train with whomever they please; however, we use one primary trainer when we compete.

Does the team have a barn I have to stay at?

No, members are free to board their horses at any barn of their choosing.

Do you offer scholarships for the team?

The team does not offer any scholarships. The team pays for intercollegiate event entry fees and hotel costs for competing members. Members have access to some team gear as needed.

What does it mean to be a club sport team?

We have a Sports Programs professional staff serving as our liaison to assist with safety concerns, member conflict, or potential violations of university policies and regulations.
